About Nimbus BoatsNimbus Boats is a leading leisure boat manufacturer in the Nordic region. The group includes the well-known brands of Storebro (luxury yachts at 41-62 feet), Nimbus (high end walk-around and coupé models at 22-42 feet), Ryds (open day-trip/fishing boats with both in- and out board engine solutions at 15-23 feet) and Maxi (classic Swedish sailboat brand re-launched in higher-end segment). Altor acquired a majority stake in Nimbus Boats in March 2006. The previous owners, including the founders of the company, remain as shareholders alongside Altor. Altor was attracted to the fundamentally strong market outlook, partly driven by an overall increase in spend on leisure activities and assets together with an increasing number of wealthy people likely to be able to buy the types of boats in Nimbus portfolio. In this market, Nimbus could show an impressive track record with a number of very strong brands and products positioned in interesting market segments. Altor’s investment thesis was based on further leverage the portfolio of very strong brands and to support the next step of “industrialization” of key business processes, including ranging from product development, production, distribution and sales. In addition, the market momentum and strong outlook for the future further added to the investment attractiveness. Altor’s ambition is to build on the very successful development of the company to date and the one-of-a-kind industrial expertise built up in the company while supporting the group in taking the next step of “industrializing” a very traditional industry by selectively adding functional resources on group level. |
